Sheep, Snow and other things

We have had a scare with Loofy (the aloof one). Ian said that she was acting ‘strange’ but couldn’t put his finger on it, then yesterday I saw her collapse in the garden. They have been kept in for a while and yesterday was their first day out. We gave her Ewe Boost, anti biotics, a vitamin jab and wormer, thinking that we’d just try to treat everything. I looked to see if she was lambing – but not that I could see. It was one year exactly since she had her premature lambs last year – so I did wonder. She was too weak to get up, so we had to man handle her into the basement. Given that she is most distainful of our contact, and suffers us as food providers only, this was a sign that she must be poorly. When I went to check on her last thing, Moulty followed me into the stable. Moulty and Loofy came from the same farm last year and different to the others and they are inclined to hang around together. It was good that she went in as it was company for L (as we were worried she’d just ‘give up’) and also we were worried about Moulty as she wasn’t her normal self either ie stamping her foot at us.

This morning I was quite resigned to be facing a dead sheep – but infact she was there waiting to go out. We have let them out as thinking that the fresh air is probably best and it is dry at the moment. I don’t know what this was and will keep an eye on them.

The snow has gone now, we had another viewer cancel on Saturday because of blizzards, it was quite blustery but the snow didn’t settle. We have come off lightly.

Ian said goodbye to his car on Sunday as it was sold to someone who came up from Bradford. So we are a single car family! We’re going to keep an eye open though for something else as it does mean I am reliant on one of the three buses a day that go past here!

I have given up on Bluebell (goat) being pregnant. I think it was a combination of fat and woolly fleece.

I was away for a few days last week in Swanage, train down on Tuesday and back on Friday. I enjoyed my break and we managed to fit in an awful lot to a couple of days. Ian was pleased to see me back, at least that is what I think he meant when he said how quiet it was without me….
