What snow?

Sunshine all day, but the occasional car coming past from Newcastle way with a coat of snow on. We’ve been quite disappointed as we’ve been ready for a brief spell of hibernation. Ian has found that the rose hip wine is drinkable but not alchoholic. Worrying really, as last time he said that (after the orange-squash wine), he woke up in the morning to find an email from Microsoft thanking him for his email from the night before and his interesting suggestions. I didn’t like the way that Ian enthused over the wine as only yesterday he was commenting about its opaqueness.

And no lambs.

I must admit I thought this might be the case after I pronounced loudly that we would have our first lambs over the weekend. I had to refer to our books yesterday, but it was not helpful as it said that the ewe about to lamb would become stand-offish and a bit agressive. Well, our two potentials were ‘Loofy’ named because she is Aloof, and One Horn who uses her one horn to great effect, fighting everything that moves. (in fact we think this is why her lamb last year was born three months after the others as she was making her feeling towards Horrace well known).

We did drag OH down to the basement for a couple of days, but this was getting quite stressful and I don’t think she appreciated it was for her own good.

We did another silly thing – congratulating ourselves on the fact that the chicks that we hatched from last year turned out to be all hens. Almost in front of our eyes one of these hens grew tail feathers – and wandered off getting ready to crow.

Mike cut the padlock off the barn door as he still has his horses here and we said we might need the shelter. His work on his stables has slowed as he had a cow fall on him and he broke some ribs and fingers.

And what was this on the radio about birds? I only caught the end of it, but found that quails were at the top – or bottom of what ever it was they were talking about.

The dog pictures are at special request of Aunt Hil! We will try to get them to do something interesting…
