As the weather is cooler we decided to go for a midday cycle ride – and of course this was a great opportunity to dig deep in the freezer and find a couple of last year’s pasties. These were of the surprise variety as needless to say my ‘don’t worry about labeling them, I know exactly what they are’ policy failed after about 10 minutes. We found ourselves with a breakfast pasty and a lentil pasty -both of which were good. The dubious ones are the ones that where the fillings were made from leftovers. Each one, however, is truly unique.
We aimed for a circular cycle ride. On our new favorite route to Llerena and then heading back around the bull farm. However the route seemed to go through the bull farm rather than round it, and the sign warning of dangerous beasts was enough to get us turning round. Franco’s hunting lodge is also in the vicinity and to get to that apparently you have to go through the bull farm – I would want to make sure that the bulls are firmly the other side of the fence before venturing across the farm.
We were on new grounds, and found a little pond plus plenty of far reaching views. There were hundreds of frogs round the pond and as we ate our pasties, we could just hear a continual plop plop as the frogs were jumping into the water, and then more plopping sounds as they were hopping in the shallows of the pond. As it so happened there was a cool breeze, otherwise I think we would have found it too hot. Perhaps another couple of weeks before it’s pleasant enough for a midday outing.
The village is very quiet today, I think they may have decamped to the Feria in Zafra.
