Ian and the Storks Return

Ian arrived back yesterday safely and his journey hadn’t been affected at all by snow. He arrived back into the end of a sunny day here, although cold. To celebrate we went out to buy cat litter. Oh yes, we certainly know how to celebrate in style! On the way back we popped into Pepe’s and found Pepe and a group of regulars collected around a television set, randomly waving a remote control around trying to get it to work. There appeared to be a lot of gesticulating before moving onto the plugging and unplugging of wires. Ian was steadfastly trying not to make eye contact in case they asked him to help. 10 years without a television has taken its toll and Ian’s inclined just to stare open mouthed at the miracle of a box containing things that move rather than know what wire goes where.

When we left they were still no further forward. I think they may have been hoping to watch the football world cup announcement, so perhaps it was just as well that they weren’t successful.

We were on our cat litter mission as the poor cats are shut away in my workshop while the builders are here. This is particularly important while Manuel is working in the house. Already we have little kittie footprints in our of the kitchen units he’s building. I quite like it, but I don’t think that Manuel was impressed. I’ve also been keen to keep Pirata away from building work. It is unsettling for him as things aren’t where they should be for him, but importantly, I’ve been worried about the cement dust getting in his eyes.

When we were at the jumble sale on Saturday we noticed a few storks around Badajoz. Yesterday I saw that some had returned here. All the nests will be filling up over coming days as they get ready for next year’s stork chicks. There generally seems to be a few that arrive back first. I don’t know if they lead the way for the others, or race back to be first and bags the best nests.
