Actually, it’s Spain Day, or in the rest of the Hispanic world, Día de la Hispanidad. We celebrated by making pasties. The thought being that now the weather is cooler during the day and dark in the mornings, we can go for a cycle ride at lunch time and take our pasties with us to eat en-route. Our aim was to fill the freezer with pasty delights that we could take with us next time we venture out.
I don’t think that Mr Ginsters needs to worry just yet. Our pasties were perhaps not the success that we had hoped for. It isn’t helped by the fact that our cooker has two heat settings – complete incineration and very slightly warm. Which means that some have rather black bottoms.
I’m also wondering whether baked bean and onion is the best filling. Although on reflection, it was probably better than the lentil based slop that we added to the other half of the pasties.
As the pasties are cooling, so is our enthusiasm for packing our pockets with these lentil filled time-bombs, which are ready and waiting to leak their sloppy contents. At least, I suppose, we could follow the lentil trail back home again if we get lost.
Mind you, Ian’s enthusiasm seemed to wane somewhat after I told him I would knit him a pasty carrier that he could strap to his arm.
