Still in the full thrust of dynamism, we’ve started planning what needs to be done where, which has entailed drawing up a plan.
Happily, Ian has an electronic tape measure, unfortunately it is difficult to work, therefore it took several attempts before the measurements were correct. I did marvel at the optical illusion that didn’t make one side of the kitchen look twice the length of the other as the tape measure reported – I’d pressed to ‘add’ button which added the two sides together.
Anyway, with plans in place we’ve been working out how the new bathrooms are going to look and what is going to go in them. The plan below is ‘work in progress’, however it as far as we’ve got currently. It looks a little strange, as what I haven’t done is put in the thickness of the walls, which is well over two feet in some places. Therefore in one of the bathrooms, we’ll put a shower into the kitchen door that will be blocked off, however that is not represented in the plan. The kitchen isn’t divided into two, the line going across the middle is the beam. Being that the beam is fairly low we need to design around it.
The biggest change is the splitting of the bathroom into two – one being an ensuite from the bedroom. The thing that looks like a staircase is what will be a cupboard under the stairs. The small new room next to it will be a cloakroom type thing to hang coats and keep shoes. The door to the main bathroom will lead off this.
From all of this we can get a definitive plan together and talk to the builder about a schedule.
Today’s decision is what to do about the electrics. We haven’t factored any of this in – however it would make sense when the walls are being done to get the wires recessed into the walls where appropriate. We also need to think about where we want lights.
