Phew, What a Scorcher!

It has been hot. So hot that the needle went off the scale on our thermometer. Now, obviously the patio wasn’t 60 centigrade, but that is what the thermometer was measuring in full sun.

It’s been around 45 or so, not sure what that is in old money but probably a zillion degrees or something. I’ve moved out of my workshop as it is too hot and the house if full of flopped animals. Actually they are all very quiet, it is quite nice.

I think it is about the same as it was last year, but I think it started earlier last year. This paint-stripping heat has really only been here since Saturday this year.

We’ve used our icecream maker every day and the favorite by far is plain yogurt with a dash of honey. I’m perfecting still my yogurt making skills.

We went to Zafra market on Sunday. Ian has been before and assured me that there was nothing there. A football field full of stalls, but apparently, not worth a peak.

It was wonderful – like Llerena but bigger, full of stalls selling bras which are displayed all humped up on the tables, whilst little old ladies come up and give them a squeeze like they are checking tomatoes or something; lots of bedding and linen-y things. We were stood marveling (in not necessarily a positive fashion) at some towels with hand crocheted edge which were displayed in their own wooden case, when someone from the village came up. He runs the stall with his brother so I managed to turn my slightly horrified expression into one of pleasure.

There were also lots of stalls with fans. Hand fans of all sizes and descriptions. And best of all there was a man who I don’t think was legally there, selling tomatoes from the back of his van. You bought them by the bucket and they were tremendous. We had the last tonight. Whilst they looked a little odd – mishapen and pitted, they tasted wonderful.

Aaahck. I’ve had the proof of the finished version of the cape for Interweave Crochet. They asked me to make the sample in a size 40 inch chest. Which I did, but they have modeled it on a stick insect! So it is cow pat brown and looks baggy.

I think the young kitties will be staying with us as no one has turned up for them. Ian now refers to them as Gittens, as they are getting cheeky. I think I mentioned that the Spanish would have drowned them, perhaps keeping just one. Well I was listening to the 101 Dalmations audiobook and they refer to drowning kittens (in the book, I don’t think that Disney included this) and just keeping one, and that book was obviously written for children, so it was in very recent past when this would have been completely normal.

So, names – the 7 dwarfs (minus one of course), I quite like names from Jeeves and Wooster (Jeeves, Wooster, Finkbootle, Tuppy, Biffy, Agatha (aunt)), or Sherlock Holmes (Sherlock, Watson, Mycroft, Moriarty, Hudson (Mrs) and Irregular (after Bakers Street Irregulars)). Ian quite like the names that they’ve got, Gunc, Gunc Twin, Spot, Biffa, Blackbeard and Bent Tail.

Any suggestions…?
