Evie seems to be making progress, although she keeps toppling onto her side. I find this worrying as this is how we have them when they have been poorly, however I think she is toppling over when she is trying to move, so hopefully this is a good sign and not a sign of anything worse. I started to clip her yesterday, but have now mislaid the clippers which is quite a feat.
We’ve put bluebell in the cellar with Evie, she was poorly on Monday and we found her on her side. we bought her in straight away and put her in the downstairs toilet, which we know is warm, and she immediately jumped up and tried to get out. However when we found her she definately was floppy and breathing shallowly so I don’t know what to think. We’ve got her with Evie as we can keep a close eye on both of them, and also it is company for Evie as we don’t want her to get depressed. The ducks and the goats are living together at night and I am not sure who finds it worse, the goats having to listen to the ducks incessant quacking (we can hear them muttering to themselves at night), or the ducks who of course find the goats have pinched their straw to lie on.
The other two angoras seem fine, I have been turning them out during the day. The weather has been quite warm, but today it is windy which they won’t like.
The key challenge is going to be to get Evie back on her legs again. I have had her on my lap when I was trimming her with her legs dangling either side, and they are hanging straight now, which they weren’t at the weekend.
The other problem we have is that Tan Tan puts him/herself to bed with the ducks. I don’t know why, but the little thing nips into the cellar without me noticing and it is only when I am counting the ducks I notice a little head poking up from behind the straw. I’ve been picking him/her up and putting him/her back in the hen house though as I don’t want him thinking that the cellar is home, in case it gets confused if I’m not around.
We watched Freckles and BlackKnees out in the field with the Herdies and wondered why they decided to become part of the Herdie flock and not part of Debbies. Although they would have come in the garden with the Herdies, they were also in the field with Debbies sheep so I don’t know how they would know which sheep gang to join. The Herdie lambs would have been quite old by the time we let Freckles and BlackKnees out to join them so it wasn;t even as though they were all fed together.
Started feltmaking course on Monday so Ian is looking forward to many new felt garments. Saying that, I am not sure that I am going to make him anything else as he refuses to wear the woollen jerkin that I crocheted him. It took me ages to do and I thought he would be delighted. It is a perfect fit too – there is no pleasing some people!
Small bedroom is now finished. The next ‘big’ project is going to be the kitchen. How to make it look nice without spending any money – given that we are not going to get the doors to hang straight, we are thinking of alternative ideas – any suggestions most welcome…..
