Flying visit back to the uk last week, to see Olly, my new nephew, to drop my finished jewellery into the publishers and to pick up one or two useful items.
….like 9 kilos of spices. It didn’t seem like much when I was buying them online, but meant that I had a large box of spices to cart round with me. i felt a bit like Tony Hawks going round Ireland with a fridge. On top of this I also had 12 or so packs of beanfeast, 4 jars of tahini….
I flew from Seville. Security is extremely tight, even making people take off their wedding rings. This of course slowed everything up as people who had not taken their rings off in years had to prise them off without amputating a finger, and then squeeze them back on again. the other side of security was full of people putting on shoes, filling pockets again with loose change and keys… Ah what fun.
With a bag full of wire bits I of course got taken to one side by a gun toting guard and made to unpack. I showed them a silver rose that I had made thinking that they woudl realise that I wasn’t a bomb maker. however it would seem that wire roses are the in thing with bomb makers as they made me unpack everything. Even earrings had to be taken out of their clear plastic bags. As I finished the guard said ‘bonito’ – pretty (I assume about the jewellery). After this palaver I was glad that I was there in plenty of time. Luckily the french traffic controllers also did their bit delaying the flight by a couple of hours giving me plenty of time to repack.
I got the train straight down to Bournemouth. it was a good service and went every 30 mins so I had plenty of options. Just a shame that the train cost more than the flight!
H&P are delighted with Olly who is a lovely baby. M&D also came round and we had a nursery ryme singing session, which I hope will not have scared Olly for life.
I’m not doing very well finding a dog groomer, so I have decided to cut them myself. So far it is just Billy who has been subject to dog topiary. The others will follow.
It has been a busy weekend for band practice. We still can’t get used to the hours that the locals keep. The band which is full of youngsters, was practicing between 9.30 and 10.30pm, and as we retired to bed on Friday, the band was in the street outside booming away, with families and young children following it, as we tried to sleep. Saturday it was the ‘b team’ who all appear to play their own tunes. Luckily they did not march through the streets. I guess that they are getting ready for some band activity this weekend.
I’ve done some more clearing out of my workshop, which means that I have less boxes in the workshop and a lot more boxes outside the workshop. I think we are going to have to have another fire – but when? If we have it ‘late’ at night it will be when everyone is up and about.
At the bread shop this morning they had rings of bread which had a whole egg in the front of it. A bit like a crown with an egg at the front. Interesting…..
