Moulting chickens and craft fare

I didn’t know that chickens did this when they moulted, not I suppose, having given it much thought I had assumed that their feathers completely fell out and new ones came through. So it was with a bit of a panic that I noticed that our Rhode appeared to have all her feathers broken off with just the feather shaft left and I wondered if this was a sign of a fox. However on closer inspection we noticed that in fact the new feathers come through the feather shaft – she currently looks as though she has a lot of little shaving brushes stuck on her.

Talking of chickens, Bandy Legs legs are still bandy, and I am not going to stick them back together again, I have popped him/her outside with the rabbits and quails and we’ll see how it gets on. Give the poor thing a chance to get used to its legs before we decide what to do.

And also, Tan Tan has a bad knee and is in the house. Hmmm. Was seen last night snuggled into Ian’s neck asleep.

Yesterday was the craft fare. I did not go out of the market at all, so not much to report on the charity shop front. Ian was a bit dispondent as two of the favorites were closed so no new trousers, but on reflection he did realise that he has never owned so many pairs before and probably didn’t need any more (does he not realise that ‘need’ has nothing to do with shopping?). Although I exhibited much maturity by not buying a pearl pair of Dr Martins which were on sale in the market, my self control rather confused Ian.

Only one weirdo, which wasn’t bad. oh, and the slightly bald man who bought a solid shampoo and was very earnest about whether chamomille or lavender would be best.

Could have been better, but we did break even. If you think of the fact that both of us are there for the day, plus petrol and parking, plus the odds and ends through the day, the £40 that we took was really hardly worth the effort. But it is a day out, and there is no point in dropping out now as things should start to take off for Christmas. Yesterdays sales were nearly all Fancies and solid shampoo. I have made a load of new fancies – and different sizes, and I think that this is what I will concentrate on now for the rest of the fares.

I had also had this idea for bowls and pots crocheted from plastic bags. Sort of bathroom accessories. Did not sell any though, perhaps people of Newcastle are not ready yet for such innovation. Ian says they are very different, but quite frankly I did not like the way he said ‘different’!
