it was with suprise when she was outside this morning with NINE ducklings in tow.
We had to make a quick decision, do we leave them all together roaming wild, or do we try to gather them into a run. When Amelia was having her breakfast we grabbed the ducklings and put them into a box, but could not get Amelia who couldn’t understand how she had lost her ducklings. It was very sad, but we could not leave them out uncovered or the birds of prey (or Davy) would get them. So they are up in the spare room now under a heat lamp. They seem quite happy, jumping in and out of the bowl of water we have put up there. Amelia was obvioulsy distressed this morning, but by this evening was quite happy quacking at the chickens. The ducklings are in the same room as the Gruesome Twosome, who were both stood on the side of their box looking glaring at the new comers, and cheeping loudly.
Last night when we were walking through the field we found a dead chick – looked like a hatchling. What of I do not know, the feet were massive and clawed. Just looking at the size of ducks feet and how big they grow into, this was a monster. An owl I wonder? The midges are back, we got driven back to the house yesterday by a midge wave.
The derilict was sold at auction on Saturday – £40k, so work will start there soon. It will be interesting to see what happens.
Lambey seems to have hopefully turned the corner.
Bob was playing with the others this evening first time for a couple of weeks.
We had two poorly goats who are no worse.
………and 9 ducklings who were a nice suprise!
