rosie gives us a scare

Well, we’re not entirely sure what happened, however yesterday we had to take Rosie to the vet as an emergency as something terrible had happened to her mouth. Her gum had come away form the jaw bone on one side. But she was in no pain or discomfort, and virtually no blood, just a tiny spot. I initially thought her tongue was hanging out, then I realized what I was looking at was the inside of her gum.

The vet had no idea and asked if she could have been shot, which is impossible. He rather gruesomely showed us how there was a massive hole through to the other side. We could already see that the gum had come away.
The vet thought that she had somehow pierced her gum and an infection formed which then burst. He said he thought the original injury would have happened four days ago.
Something bursting would explain how we suddenly noticed it. There’s no way we could have missed something like that otherwise.
So the only thing we could think of is the orange tree, as that has some nasty spikes and maybe she chewed a branch. Either that or something blew into our patio during the storms. The weather has been so bad we haven’t been for any walks, so we knew it was impossible she picked up anything outsid e.
So the vet literally reconstructed her gum by sewing it all back together and we bought her home. The challenge now it to get it all to mend. She’s being fed with a syringe to try to keep it as clean as possible.
She seems completely happy and normal, so what ever it was didn’t affect her, nor does this pretty horrendous surgery seem to have set her back at all.  Here she is complete with napkin ready for another syringe of chickpea and egg puree! I am amazed at how normal she is now looking. Hopefully we can keep it infection free and stop her from knocking it and it will repair well.
Before we noticed Rosie’s jaw, we’d been for a picnic
Look how low the water level still is. We have sat on the platform o the right with the water up to the edge.

Alk the rain we had was literally a drop in the reservoir!
