That was close….

We had a proper Extremaduran storm during the week and it was one of those where it felt like someone had just poured buckets over us. Luckily there was no hail, as the house would have definitely flooded. As it was, the water level rose so it was at the top of the step at the back. We were both out there scooping water from into the planter as water came out of there, slower than it came out of the drain pipe off the roof.

The rain stopped as soon as it started, and while it was a little wet inside the back door, we didn’t have the flowing water we’ve had in the past.

Unfortunately, I’d lost Ian’s head-torch that very morning (lost it when we were on our walk) and the battery had corroded in our other one, and the light isn’t that good on the patio, so there was a bit of guesswork trying to keep the drain clear etc – luckily the power didn’t go out. Ian’s head torch was the first present I gave him, and it was when we were at Great Elm so he could find his way about and we could get to the pub and back – so that means it was over 18 years old!

It was warm rain, so it wasn’t too bad standing out in it. We’ve been out of gas for a while, and have been showering in the cold water, which is just comfortable for a shower still – but certainly wouldn’t have warmed us up if we’d got cold!

Wilbur has an ear infection which we are treating. He gets doggie chocolate drops and yogurt. Chocolate drops are a treat and the yogurt is part of the treatment as the probiotics are supposed to help. As doggie chocolate drops and yogurt are his two favorite things in the world, he doesn’t seem to be minding having his ears cleaned too much at all!
