I saw a strange thing earlier. A birds nest appeared to be walking around the yard. When I investigated a little bird was underneath it – it must have fallen out of the tree. I have put the nest and bird onto the wall and am keeping an eye on it. I am not sure if the parents will feed it there. I don’t want to pick it up though as it is as safe as it can be on the top of the wall and it is sheltered there. There must be something wrong with those trees as we keep finding things which have fallen out. Wonder if the branches are slippy.
Basil has taken to flopping down in the yard oblivious to much of what is going on. Luckily he missed the walking nest – and equally luckily didn’t appear to notice that he had a flock of hens who were pecking around his tail. I quickly shut the door on the small dogs who would not be so relaxed about the hens. But Basil just ignored them. I didn’t take a chance and bought him in whilst I shooed the hens out.
I have been rabbit grooming. I hope to find someone who can spin my rabbit fibre as I don’t think this is a skill that I am ever going to have. This is a good time to groom them as they are naturally moulting which makes the collecting of their wool much easier. The only unnerving thing is that one of the buns keeps squealing when I am grooming it. I do remember one of the little ones used to do that when it was a baby, but I have not heard it for a long time now. It does sound as though I am doing something rather more unpleasent than brushing the poor little thing.
..and one last thing – Ian saw an owl going into the barn at 7.00 the other morning so we def know they are back (their pellets are around too), but still no sign of babies. Fingers crossed that there are some this year.
