We had to go to Burela so we thought we’d head down from to a town called Foz, which is our nearest big town. It’s population is about 10k people and it’s about 20km away from us.
Being a larger town, it has more in the way of shops and supermarkets, but I think we can probably get everything we need in Burela or San Ciprian – but it’s good to know what’s available.
When we left home we were marvelling at the rainbows! When we first saw it, it was a complete arc. I don’t think we’ve seen a rainbow for a long time – certainly not like this!
Clearly the photo above would have looked better if not through the window of the car, but it was quite impressive.
So we nipped into the supermarket, looking foward to a picnic in Foz – and came out into rain! Had we thought about it, the rainbows should have been a clue – but we didn’t think about it and were therefore suprised!
We did go to Foz and took a bit of an unintended detour, and ended up turning around in the carpark of Spain’s oldest Cathedral. We will go back and take some pics at some time.
Foz is spread out around the coast and what appears to be quite a big estary- We will return and take some less rainy photos as I think it is probably quite impressive – in these photos it just looks a bit grey!

We sat in the car and had our picnic – not very adventurous, but we’d gone out in just t-shirts, so unprepared.
Our first experience of Galician rain was ‘well, it’s not proper Extremaduran rain is it…’. It was lots of showers, yet quite light. It wasn’t the ‘it hasn’t rained for 10 months so let’s make up for it in the next 3 seconds/bucket over the head’ rain that we’ve been used to. Which is probably a good thing.
So far the temperature and weather has been pretty much as we expected. We knew there would be more rain, however I guess we’ve only had one rainy day so far when there hasn’t been any sun. And temperature-wise, we were expecting during the winter the highs to be similar to what we were used to but warmer nights. Today, for example, here it’s 19 high and 13 low, while in Villagarcia it is 18 high and 8 low, so that’s quite a big overnight difference. It will be in Spring, I guess, that we start to see the big difference as here (hopefully) it won’t get anywhere near as hot.
