Ship Ahoy!

We saw this big ship being towed into the aluminium plant dock by the two tugs. As I leapt out of the still-moving car to take a photo I am sure that more than one person wondered what I had seen that was worth all that effort and we certainly confused the car behind us. I guess if you see this every day, it’s not very interesting, however I thought it was fun to see.

Talking of ships, I’ve been teaching Ludvig ‘ship ahoy’, which i must admit to sometimes regretting, particularly when it forms the main content of his very loud dawn chorus. In the spirit of seaside living, I am also teaching him ‘what shall we do with the drunken sailor’ – which he is taking a bit of time to learn, I think the repetitive lines are confusing him (so much for learning parrot fashion).

Ludvig’s repetoire is so extensive now he mixes and matches to create his own phrases and some of them are just delightful. One that he does quite often is to mix ‘to be or not to be’ and ‘don’t worry be happy’ into ‘to be happeeeyyyyyy’.

‘Walnut’ appears quite often, so we’ve heard ‘i’ll always love walnut’. of course, he doesn’t understand what he’s saying, but when he gets a reaction from us, he registers that.

I also taught him ‘I’m Ludo from Lugo’ which I thought was great – until i realized he can be heard from the road and if people don’t know we have a parrot, they may well think either ian or I are called Ludo and for some reason we keep repeating that we’re from Lugo.

Tide’s Out

We discovered that Rueta beach (the one closest to the house), is so much bigger when the tide is out. There’s a whole area behind the railway bridge along side the river we didn’t know about. It does mean there is a lot more beach for glass collecting!

It’s a very interesting beach with the sea bit on one side of the railway bridge and then the river bit on the other. I’m not sure how much of the river bit is accessible at high tide, but there is another way to it other than on the beach – so I think we can find out.

We have found shards of old pottery from the ceramics factory which is interesting – along with some glass.

Talking of beach glass, I made a sun catcher with some bits. I made a few mistakes -however I can see the house being adorned in bits of beach glass.

Little Beach

There are a lot of beaches here and I think they just gave up naming some of them. This one is called ‘Little area’, and we’ve seen ‘big area’ and other varations. This is a very nice beach, but does take some clamboring to get to.

It looks towards San Ciprian. This beach has a lot of small pieces of beach glass and I was excited to find a little piece of black glass, which shines red when held to a light. I was less excited to find other pieces of black stone masquerading as glass.
