No Beach Pics (Promise ;) )

We have a growing collection of lemons and decided to try preserving them. They are in salt and lemon juice and should ferment into something lemoney but not bitter – we’ll see 🙂

This is our lemon tree at the back of the house. It’s got new growth on it, but no lemons, but hopefully it will come back this year. Apparently it was all covered with ivy until it was all cut back before the house was sold, so that probably explains why it isn’t fruiting. It’s difficult to see in the pic, however there are a couple of big lemon trees towards the back of the photo below – all dripping in fruit. So fingers crossed for next year!

And this is the lemon tree from the road. It obviously has grown well at some point as it’s roof height (although the lower roof).

Front Garden

Ian has been clearing a trench in the front garden for drainage. There was one there before running in front of the horreo, but it has got filled in over the years so he is digging it out. Nearer the house the trench is in stone, but it’s earth further down.

The front garden gets waterlogged after not very much rain, because the rain runs off the hill and pools in our garden! The trench will help with this.

The water runs down from the top of the hill into our front garden, the trench is at the bottom of where the horreo is stood.

Ian is also making a gate to replace the rotten gate which goes into the side garden. Percy can get through the current gate and he could get out from there, so this will make things more secure. Also, the old gate was held on with a bit of string – so probably wasn’t the most secure fence to have there!

We’re also thinking of how to make the most of our little hall space. At the moment we have the clothes airer in there, which takes up a lot of room, as does our collection of jackets with big pockets for beach combing! We’ve bought an airer which will hang from the ceiling which will give more room and if we got some shelves too, this could be quite a useful area.

I know I said no beach pics…!!

Poor Daisy lost her ball in the river. It was so sad to watch, as she was trying to sniff it out, with no success – if a dog could look heartbroken, that was Daisy.

It was a rubber ball which sunk. Ian was trying to get it as he thought he could see it, but it turns out there were a lot of ball shaped bits of brick in the river which looked exactly like Daisy’s ball.

Daisy doesn’t have a tail, but if she did, she would have come home with it firmly between her legs!
