There were some high waves over the weekend. The photo above is San Cibrao, it doesn’t look that impressive, however the video below is of Rueta beach – we could hear the waves crashing from the house. They make a sort of booming sound which echos from the hills behind us.

The council came and trimmed our hedge this week, which was nice of them. I think we expected that we’d have to do it, and keep on top of it as it’s bordering the road, but looks as though the council will be doing it for us. They cut back all the verges going up the hill too.

We can hear a lot of tree felling at the moment, which I think is coming from the eucalyptus plantation which is in front of the house.
I’m not sure if this is just normal maintenance, ‘harvesting’ of the trees or part of a campaign to take down big sections of eucalyptus plantations because of the fire hazard. The eucalyptus plantations have been the cause of the wildfires the last couple of summers in the north of Spain and there are moves to replace the eucalyptus with native trees as eucalyptus is highly combustible. Not being too close to eucalyptus plantations was on our ‘important’ list when looking at houses and we felt this house was far enough away.
We know they are cutting down trees along the road, but it sounds as though they are cutting trees straight ahead of us too, but it’s difficult to tell from just the sound.
The eucalyptus trees do look quite tightly packed – but I know as much about forest management as I do waves!
