Garden May – One month on…

This was our huerta in mid-April

And this is it mid-May.

We’re really struggling with weeds, but there’s really not a lot we can do about that. I have put some mulch around the tomatoes. What would be great would be if we could borrow a wood chipper and chip up all the roots that Ian dug from the ground of which we have a lot of, but we’d need to borrow/hire a petrol one as our electric supply isn’t strong enough for an electric one and I’m not sure where we’d get one from.

But – weeds aside, things seem to be doing OK.

And we’ve extended it further, where we’ve added some seeds. Just need to remind the birds that the seeds aren’t for them!

We’re in the middle of a cold patch, caused by a north cold wind, which I hope won’t set things back too much. Talking of the cold wind, we haven’t seen this, but apparently there are a lot of jellyfish on the beaches yesterday. This particular type of jellyfish swims at the top of the water and because of the cold wind, came close to shore for shelter and got stuck. Apparently they are not of the dangerous variety, so dangerous jellyfish is also something to think about!

This is a nice photo of Ian and Daisy – the first time she’s been out since she scratched her eye. This is the rio Xunco which flows under the railway bridge into the sea.

…and a macrame wall hanging I made on a piece of driftwood. I actually want to make macrame fish, but I was a bit rusty with knots so wanted to try a couple of wall hangings first.
