Rio Xunco

We haven’t been out very much recently as with work, the garden, Ian working on the fence… it’s been quite busy. However yesterday we decided to take Daisy for a walk by the river as she can’t go on the beach now.

So we took a walk along the river which feeds into the sea at Rueta beach. We have walked along bits of it before as it goes to Cervo and we’ve walked along the Cervo end, and we’ve also walked back from the beach along it, but this is the first time we’ve sort of joined it where we would turn off coming back from the beach. It was very pretty!

Like many of the rivers here – there were signs of old water mills (in the top picture there’s a semi-circle which is cut out near what looks like a mill pond. We also found an abandoned mill.

Daisy enjoyed her walk, but was disappointed that it didn’t entail chasing a ball (either her or Ian), and in the photo below, Ian is explaining to her that she mustn’t try to push him in the river!

We were keeping our eyes open for pieces of Sargadelos pottery. Ian found one small piece, but that was it.

Open Window 🙂

Now we’ve got the front area safe for cats, we can open the window in the kitchen and what a difference that has made. We get a good look at the front of the garden where we’ve got cucumbers growing up the wooden ladders near the road and a hydrangea which has sprung into flower. The hydrangea is certainly many years old, and perhaps next year we’ll look clearing this area a bit more to let it grow.

The wooden ladder was one that we inherited and they obviously built the enclosed bit of the barn around it, as the only way we could get it out was to cut it in two! But that was handy as it gave us somewhere for the cucumbers to climb.

All the cats have been out now except Roland who I don’t think has worked out yet that the door is open, but I am sure he’ll soon realize that the others are going somewhere he’s not. Babbity – as expected- has jumped over the wall and can roam free, but hopefully she’ll be sensible enough to stay close to the house.
