I also have had three teenagers start who are the children of teachers at the school, which I take as being an endorsement of sorts. They don’t live in the village. I have one come on his own for two hours on a Monday and two others who come together but are quite different standards, so I am not sure what I’ll do. I had said I wouldn’t take on any more, however I thought it was a good thing to take on the children of the teachers, and it’s only a couple of months now before the summer holidays.
Talking of English, one student asked me about the difference between Make and Do. The rule is that ‘do’ is an action whereas ‘make’ is something creative or constructive. However, this seems tenuous as the very best. Why do we do the washing up and make a bed or make a phone call, or do an exam but make a mistake? Much to Ian’s delight, I tried this with him and we noticed that some things sounded very wrong if we substituted do for make or visa versa – but it’s quite difficult defining why using the ‘rules’.
The weather has turned very warm, and unusually, as we head towards Semana Santa, we appear to be having a run of good weather. In the last couple of years the start of the Easter parades seems to have triggered heavy rain. But I suppose they are not going to want it too warm, lugging those great Jesus and Mary statues around, but then again, that’s why they do the parades so late at night.
