Another disappointing lottery result!

I don’t often buy lottery tickets, but now and again I find myself in the Co-op a few hours before a draw and can’t help but buy a lucky dip, believing that the odds are so short it would be miraculous if we weren’t to be millionaires by 9pm.

However once more I find myself watching a pink ticket burn on the fire and realising I can’t base my post on our sudden riches.

Oh well.

Kate’s been insisting that it’s over a month since my last contribution, which I thought was ridiculous until I actually checked.

Must have been a busy month and a bit. Actually it was.

The house has undergone further remarkable changes making it appear as if we’ve been hiding an attractive house under our rubbish. The bathroom is now carpetted in an attractive neutral carpet, which makes a quite dramatic counterpoint to the previous blue, hair dye and lamb scour coloured carpet.

The landing has shed its red carpet for a pale runner and painted floorboards.

Urm. Doesn’t seem much to have tied me up for a month! Wonder what else happened?

Suppose I should have referred back to Kate’s posts to give me an idea of the past few weeks. That said, since 3.30am Saturday morning I’ve not really been thinking straight. For some reason Kate had decided to broach the subject of why people don’t speak when they breathe in and to hypothesise as to what we would sound like if we did.

We’d taken two of the dogs upstairs that night, though strangely they seemed to melt away at this point, one of them taking the opportunity to nudge me in the ribs and snigger something about a “nutter”. I might say that was a little unfair, however quite frankly being woken at that time made me think that the dog may have had a point.

A shortage of sleep made the market on Saturday a bit of a struggle, but a reasonable rate of trade made it a little easier. It wasn’t particularly busy being a few weeks from Christmas, but was the best we’d had for some time. We’d started the day saying we’d be happy if we broke £100, but for the last 30 minutes we languished on £97.50 and had resigned ourselves to falling short, until just a few minutes before 5pm, a man took a good look at the stall. Before walking away. We started to pack up, and then a few minutes later the man returned. Result! £101.50!

This was enough for us to celebrate with a curry from a take-away in Haydon Bridge, that is on our way home. It was our first visit to this indian despite hearing good reports for some years, and I think we’re now hooked. I wonder whether we’ll ever find a similar establishment in Spain.

On Sunday, we headed east and then north for a small gallery to the north east of Kielder Forest, at a place called Elsdon. We’d seen some prints at Grainger Street the previous week, and decided to treat ourselves for Christmas. The prints looked great and we decided to push the boat out and buy 3 unframed. After half an hour in the gallery, we left having bought 5 prints. However, apparently they’re selling in London at the moment for 3 times each what we paid and they’re on the brink of being displayed in Coco del Mar. We obviously nodded in impressed approvement at this news, though neither of us had any idea what Coco del Mar was. It’s probably a well kept secrect as Google didn’t help to shed any light on it.

For our return journey, we decided to take the scenic route home and so a 1 hour journey was extended to 4 hours. It might not have been so long if we hadn’t driven to Scotland first and then kept on going. Luckily we remembered to turn left at Jedburgh and left again at Hawick, or we not have made it back home by now.

Oh well! Gone blank again!

See you next time!
