the chicken is still bandy legged. In fact I think that things are getting worse as he is getting bigger. I don’t know if I taped them in the wrong place or took the tape off too soon, or maybe I didn’t catch it in time. Anyway, legs are firmly awry, he seems to be able to get around though, albeit with extreme akwardness. It isn’t affecting its quality of life at the moment (they are living in a cardboard box so no danger will come to him), but I think we will need to watch the situation with him carefully. I suppose if we were raising them to eat then it wouldn’t matter, but as our chickens live long and hopefully healthy lives then this is going to be an issue for us.
Talking of chickens, I got hit in the back by about half a dozen flying chickens this mornign as I opened the door of their shed and they came flying out – literally, and smack into my back as I was walking away. They are very funny, they know where they get fed, and soon as the door is opened in the morning they go running to the spot where they get fed – apparently regardless of whether we are there or not. On Sunday morning the door of the shed flew open with the wind, and the chickens came bolting out and ran straight to where they get fed, getting very bemused because no food was down and we weren’t there. The little chicks outside have got the hang of running to us too and it is a bit of a challenge to make sure that they don’t get trodden on.
I have made some runs in the stable for the rabbits as the babies need to come away from Crumpet now. The have three runs, and I also put Muffin in one, however he has already escaped within a couple of houses so I need to review things. Probably a higher gate thing is required. When we have sexed the little buns then we will need to sort out rehoming or certainly splitting them up so we don’t get any unplanned pitter pattering of bunny feet.
The craft fare on Saturday was OK. I have one regular customer who came and bought a couple of tea tree soaps before the fare opened. This is good. I guess we broke even, taking into account that Ian also bought three pairs of trousers – but as they were £1 each then that is not saying too much! I had a few people comment on Mrs Scrubs fancies, which are the boxed soaps, and I still think these are going to be a good seller for Christmas. I have ordered some bigger chocolate boxes and also some coloured foils to make some gift boxes. Need also to get these on the website.
No sign of eggs from quails and we have had two now who have escaped. I think that a review of quail keeping arrangements needs to be made because of their ability to fly straight upwards. I don’t really want to cage them so more netting is going to be required I guess.
Ian is working at the flat tonight – they have finally reported the broken tap. Strangely since Ian has realised that at least two of the tennants are rather buxom young ladies, he has been playing the kind and friendly landlord – nothing is too much trouble! He was particulary impressed by the way that they were able to carry the cooker upstairs with the minumum of effort.
It still took them two weeks though to notice the hot tap wasn’t working!
