Bank Holiday

Well not as soggy as it could be. Saturday it didn’t rain and we did something that we promised our selves for a while, which was to get the bus into Haltwhistle and walk back. We got the 3.00 bus, and the driver enarly didn’t stop as we were only the third passengers he’d seen all day! We also took Petal and Billy. Not sure why the were picked out for special attention, however it would have taken us all day to walk back with Basil, and we know that P & B have lots of energy. We had forgotten however how Billy whimpers in cars – and therefore buses. The sun was out and we sat outside a pub drinking cloudy cider (intentionally cloudy for a change). The first day for weeks that it hadn’t rained. The walk back would take a couple of hours and as it is getting dark much earlier now, we headed back about 5.30, making it home about 8.00 in time to watch ‘Love Actually’ which we had got from the library on DVD.

Sunday back to work again and we were finishing off at the flat. Some bare plaster had to be painted, bath panel put on, new shower fitted… Tenants want to move in on Wednesday so the clock is ticking.

Monday – Garrigill Gala Day and I had unfortunately commited to a table selling soaps etc. I had to go as I had let them down last year and therefore would probably not be asked back if I did the same this year. It didn’t rain, although was jolly cold. I was ‘lucky’ enough to be by the music stand, and was blessed with a variety of local entertainers. Took about £25 which meant I came out ahead – even taking into account the raffel tickets, guess the name of the dog, duck race… Poor (?) Ian had to work on the flat so was unable to stand there with me getting cold and listening to a random selection of musicians.

We still have two limping ducks and we are going to need to speak to the vet. They are now hopping which is desperately sad to see. One has a bad right foot, the other left. Perhaps a three legged race type set up could be arranged…

There is a very forward mouse who is making his way around the house. There are distinct signs of him now upstairs. We’ve had a word with Davy and reminded him of his duties. Tonight he may find himself locked in the mouse room. Hope he comes out in one piece.
