have transpired not to be cash buyers after all. The fact they will be a cash buyer when they have sold their house is immaterial really isn’t it – so we are back at the starting line again. They had a cash buyer for theirs however this was from a hoaxer, and was known to the police. They had no intention of buying – the agent didn’t do very well with their checks. I guess that our buyers will be trying to sell theirs again and if they were interested once then hopefully they’ll be interested again – but we agreed the price because of a 6 week completion so we’d renegotiate.
We’ve stepped up the marketing of this and Bridge End. We’ll put this onto www.acountrylife.com where they have started to market smallholdings, and I’m also going to list it with www.ruralscene.co.uk who are specialist estate agents. I’ll take some more photos in the sun to refresh what the agents have. Bridge End we are going to get a Penrith agent to handle too.
All in all a right pain in the a**e, but we weren’t expecting an easy ride. Luckily we haven’t started too many balls rolling, but we have started to narrow down the area (again). Imagine if I’d rehomed any of the animals – or sent them to market, only to find that it had all fallen through. At the moment we need more sheep on the land to keep the grass down, not less – but the 6 or so of Mikes cows who have found their way over are helping somewhat.
It does give me a bit of time to sort my driving licence out. A word of warning to anyone who needs a new one – they are all photo id licences now and they need your passport in order to check you are who you say you are – and this can be away for three weeks – so don’t leave it to the last moment if you need a new licence for a trip abroad (as I so nearly did…), and you need photo id for domestic flights too so it’s not that convenient if they hold your passport for a while.
I’ve returned from a few days in Swanage. I am the colour of a strawberry, seeing my first sun for a very long time! It was my Aunt and Uncles golden wedding anniversary on Saturday and I caught up with lots of people. It was Dads birthday too, followed by Fathers Day and Susan and Andy were there, and so were Helen and Paul so quite a number of us. Dad has not been his normal self and it was very nice that we could all be there to spend some time with both Mum and Dad. Helen found a water scorpion by the stream in the garden and I have made a mental note not to dangle my feet in there again. The water scorpion was very unpleasent to look at and not something I would welcome nibbling at my toes.
I flew from Newcastle to Stansted and coach to london and then coach from London to Bournemouth – I wouldn’t do that trip again – particulary as I did it to save £10! and about 10 mins into the first coach journey I was cursing my thrifty ways and wished I was not stuck on a hot coach on the hottest day of the year – but coming home I flew from southampton to Newcastle and was home be 7.45 the flight left Southampton at 5.05 so it was quite painless. Mind you, Southampton airport must be one of the smallest I have ever seen and the plane had propellers! They also were unaware of what a crochet hook was and we had a debate as to whether they were going to let me take it on the plane. Luckily I won!
