The decorating has started so we are back to being camped in a single room, but thankfully this is the beginning of the end of the building work. So far so good, although there was a little confusion over the amount of preparation work that they were going to do. The preparation has been a little lacking in some areas, so we had a word with Manuel who had a word with the painter. But saying that, where the paint has been really bad – in the back hallway, they have stripped it right the way back.
It hasn’t helped that I have changed my mind about the color of the bedroom (the blue above) – nor was I expecting the ceiling to be painted blue. I had assumed that it would be white – serves me right for assuming. However Manuel came round yesterday and was saying that the colors are great, so perhaps I’ll give it a few days before getting too gloomy.
Our painter is mixing all the colors up by hand using pigments. The color in the hallway is superb. It is a traditional color and is very north African in style. It would come from the days when this part of Spain was inhabited by the Moors. The big front room is sort of a duck egg blue – actually it is the same color as it was before but perhaps a little stronger. The color in the other front room is a sort of sandy color. I think he is a little disappointed that we want the new kitchen to be white – but we really want to spend some time there before finally deciding how we want it to look. A good coat of white paint will, if nothing else, act as an undercoat for when we make our final plans.
He has touched the ceiling up in the front room and this looks excellent. It is not perfect, but just looks like it did but cleaner and stronger. He’s also done the gold paint in the hallway at the front and this, again, looks excellent. I don’t think anyone coming here for the first time would notice, however we can see that it now gold.
