Dog Training

Training a dog which can see, hear and has all its limbs is certainly a new experience – well, certainly in recent times.

I think Daisy thinks we’re a bit odd though, as we both can’t shake off the ‘oh, look how clever she is, she’s walked through a door’ mindset! We’re so used to helping the blind animals orientate themselves.

I also find that when I put her on the floor, I point her in the direction I want her to go, and while this works with the blind dogs, with Daisy she heads off in whatever direction she wants! Normally chasing Charlie and Queenie. Daisy still can’t go out, as she’s waiting for her last jabs, however when she can come out for a walk, that will help burn some of her energy off.

I am crate training her, which is something we haven’t done recently. We stopped crate training when we had Sam first, as he used to panic, and it hasn’t been appropriate with our special needs pups. She settles very well in her ‘boudoir’, and it made me remember how Bob and Henry would voluntarily put themselves in their crate. I think Daisy would, however I have to keep it closed when she’s not in there so the others don’t go in and pinch her toys! Rosie would make short work of Daisy’s chews!
