Dumpling hasn’t been quite as well as she had been, but it was difficult to pinpoint exactly what was wrong. So we went back to the vet who quickly saw that dumpling had a lot of fluid in her body which was making her sluggish and not wanting to eat. I had noticed that she was looking a bit tubby, but she is Dumpling and never looks svelte. But it was fluid and not a little extra podgeyness.
This is as a result of her heart not working as it should and the vet advised us that this is a symptom of Dumpling coming to the end of her life. She gave us some treatment to help with the fluid and that worked very well, however it’s not curing the problem and we just need now to care for her and ensure her quality of live remains good. At the moment, you’d really not know that see had any problems as her live is pretty much the same as always- sleep, eat, repeat. She goes up and down the stairs with caution, but that’s not a surprise as they are quite big steps for her small legs.
The vet couldn’t give us any time frame, suggesting Dumpling could have week or months left. So we just need to watch her and look out for pain, as the get says that well be the time to say goodbye.
We don’t know how old she is, but she’s been with us for 12 years and she came to is as an adult, so she is pretty much a senior dog now.
