Well, we’ve had a few escapees this week.
A couple of the sheep have escaped and have been found wandering along the road. They have been ushered back, and the young tups have found themselves in the next door neighbours garden. But luckily these too have caught on to the fact that they are supposed to follow a sack and returned without too many problems. They did appear to high-tail it back over into the other field though as soon as they realised that there was not a lot in the sack.
One of the rabbits escaped from its cage – well actually I think that the goats let it out. We got it back in without any problem.
And the last escapee was a baby rabbit that Davy bought in and which escaped from him. Ian was talking to Jim on the phone when pandamonium started. The rabbit was running round the room followed by Davy who was followed by the dogs. Jim was treated to the sound of our shouting, dogs barking whilst Davy was wondering where is new pet went. We rescued the rabbit and popped it into a box for the night. It seemed to recover and we put it out the next day – although I don’t know what its survival chances would be.
Loofy appears not to have any after affects from her funny five minutes last week, we have noticed that a couple of them are limping which would appear to be foot rot. This is probably through being kept in for a while.
No signs of lambs, we wondered if Herdies are genetaically programmed to lamb late – as they would normally be up a mountain somewhere.
Regular supply of one or two duck eggs, which I am finding in the cellar. I imagine that there are more to in the field somewhere. I’ll keep an eye on where they are going.
Had a bit more snow – but not settling. The days are definately getting longer and the chickens are not putting themselves to bed until 6.30.
We have managed a week with just one car – we’ll keep an eye open for another, but really would like some indication of what is going to happen with the house before we make any decisions. Had another viewing this weekend. A fellow estate agent, who turned up in pin stripe suit and pink shirt and tie, his wife was wearing pink wellies (which I quite liked). I am not sure what they thought – they would definately NOT be smallholding types!
