Fence and Gate

Ian is busy working on the fence and gate. The first gate is ready to hang as you can see in the photo below and then there will be another which will be attached near the wall.

and he’s also building steps which will join the top big of the garden. Currently there are large stones set into the wall for climbing up, but the steps will definitely be easier and make this more accessible.

Ian’s carrying a saw in the photo above, as we thought we’d try to slice some driftwood on the beach. However, this is a new saw so although we took it to the beach – after thinking about the damage the sand might cause – we took it home again!!

We were going to try slicking the bits of driftwood in the front, but we took one bit home to try with an old saw. We inherited a couple with the house so we’ll try one of those.

And this was me paddling!

Huerta

We’re pleased with how the huerta is looking. Something is eating the cabbage, but other than that, it’s all growing well.

We’ve got tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers which are beginning to form and lettuces and rocket ready for harvest.

In the front of the garden we’ve got artichoke, melon, strawberries and a raspberry bush. Two of our melons died during the cold wind, the wind whipped them round and round until they broke, but hopefully the rest will be OK.

Bits of Wool!

Because we didn’t really know what our plans were going to be and what sort of house we’d live (or even camp) in, I was looking for small portable craft projects to do. I had collected together old sweaters and things I have knitted in good quality yarn and slowly been unpicking them AND unwinding the wool to try to get it back to individual strands or as near as I can. Then respinning it into ‘new’ yarn.

It’s been quite a good thing to do as I have a lot of things knitted in good quality yarn or yarns from fiber I have spun, so I’ve got quite a pile now of balls of wool to start all over again with!

Some things were damaged as we did suffer from insects which would eat wool and cotton, so where that’s given me lots of shorter pieces, I’ve put to one side for weaving.

I now have quite a treasure trove of yarn to work with 🙂
