Tuesday we came within a gnat’s whisker of flooding at the back of the house. Just pure volume of rain – it was one of those rain storms that is not unlike someone putting a pressure hose outside. The rain also took paint off our the walls in the yard. It looks a little like we’ve been through the wars, but when you look outside, other houses are the same and the street is full of flaked paint and broken tiles. This is why they paint their houses once a year!
The water also comes down the chimney in the bedroom. The twirly thing at the top has jammed, so the water was coming down. We’d lit the fire and the result was not unlike a sauna, as steam was generated by the water running into the fire. We probably won’t be lighting that again while it’s raining until Manuel unjams the top. It’s fine in other conditions – not heavy rain though.
My teenager started his lessons again on Tuesday and to add to our collective misery, he is reading Dorian Gray. I was a little surprised by the choice, I am sure that there are more engaging and cheerful books for teenage boys.
We’ve stopped our advertising campaign, as of today. So it will be interesting to see what happens. MakeForBaby has had a real upswing since we started advertising, so I’m expecting some to drop off, but hoping that we’ll still see a net growth. MakeForBusiness obviously is too new to be able to tell what is from advertising and what is just organic growth. I’ll leave it a couple of weeks and then decide what our strategy will be ongoing. Can you have a strategy based on 5 dollars a day, I wonder…??
Ian upgraded my computer to Windows 7. I went for a full version and not an upgrade, even though I could have upgraded, because I wanted to go to an English version. In fact, it worked out cheaper to get the full version than it would to get the upgrade – so that was an added bonus. While it’s OK for Ian, as he knows his way around his computer, I found that I was missing out on a lot because I just didn’t know what I was looking for. I’ve learned a few Spanish words – mainly ‘no responde’. Oh, and pestañas which is what we call tabs. That translates to eyelashes, which I rather like. Windows have a good media suite – apparently – however I couldn’t make head or tails of it in Spanish, so at least now I feel that I have a sporting chance.
With regards to W7 – so far so good. My computer, at times, was next to useless – for ever hanging up. So far, I’ve not had ‘no responde’ or ‘not responding’ as it will now be called, once. Which is good. Long may it continue…
