We’ve got another heatwave. A lot of Spain has a red warning. We have an orange warning. Goodness knows what it would be like in Seville where the big tall buildings trap the heat. Unbearable I guess.
We always take these things quite seriously, and make sure that the dogs don’t fall asleep outside – but they are generally quite good. Quite often we’ve been at the vet during the summer when a dog has been bought in with heat stroke or we hear of one that has died from it.
We do find they break their housetraining when the weather is very hot and I think this is because the patio get so hot it burns the pads of their feet. I’ve certainly burned the bottom of my feet before – not so it’s blistered, but so I’ve been aware of it afterwards.
When we first moved here we noted how seriously people treat heat and the sun. We’d forever be pulled into the shade and someone even stopped their car once to give Ian a hat! However, it is with good cause and they certainly know the danger of the heat. A local man died in the last heat wave a couple of weeks ago. I am not sure if they are from this village or another local village, but he was an electrician and got heatstroke working outside in the morning.
Ian’s just returned from taking the car into the garage. The water doodah broke – but luckily it did so not far from the garage or from the pilar where he could get water to top it up. So we are carless for a day or so – but as we only use it to go to the vet and we don’t have a vet appointment until next week, it won’t be too much of an inconvenience.
