Poor little Horace – he really doesn’t want much from life other than a duvet to snuggle under – but yesterday I noticed that his cheek looked swollen under his eye and it looked similar to what happened before.
We decided to take him to the vet straight away so they could check, and unfortunately Horace had a seizure on the way to the vet. This is the third he’s had. The other two were while I was bathing him, once in June and once in October. I had put this down to stress although I have bathed throughout the years without any problems. So it looks like stress in general may trigger a seizure. We did take him to the vet for a haircut before Christmas and he travelled in the travel box fine then – so I don’t know if this will be a problem moving forward or if he was feeling a bit fragile with pain from the swelling.
Neither of us know how much pain Horace feels. The tooth abscess he had earlier last year must have been pretty painful – certainly the vet thought so – but Horace didn’t seem to show any.
So – we went to the vet with one thing and then got emergencied to the front of the queue because of Horace’s seizure. He’d come out of it by then but was pretty floppy – which actually made it easier for the vet to check the swelling.
And it was another abscess., The vet said it was ‘incredible’ (but I think in a bad way), that this had returned so quickly as he’d had the bad teeth removed and everything cleaned last summer.
We’re back to giving him antibiotics to clear the swelling and then he’ll have to have more teeth removed. I was a bit worried about this but then Ian reminded me of Herbie and Alfie who were both without many teeth and then managed to eat whatever was in front of them.
The seizures are more of an issue. I hope that it’s not something that will be triggered by going in the car as this will make vet visits difficult. But we’ll cross that bridge if and when we come to it. We know that when he’s at home, we can keep him snuggled, safe and stress free – which is all he really wants.
