Hottest day of the year (hmmm)

We finally gave in and reinstalled the blinds in the bedroom. This was becuase it is still light at 11.00 and the sun has been waking us up in the morning – before 4.00. So, enough was enough and the blinds were reinstalled. Last night I was aware of flashing light and thought it was cars, then realise that they would have to be in the field to be lighting up the front of the house, so then thought it was flood lights, which of course was irrational, so I got up and had look. There were flashing lights over the fell to the West, however no thunder. I guess it was lightening, however I must find out more about the northern lights. Ian of course slept though this, although did acknowledge that I was up looking at bright lights, by snoring loudly.

This morning there was a feeling that there had been a storm but no rain.

The gruesome twosome (chicks) had their heat lamp raised again. They have truely bonded and no worries about them pecking eachother to death. The bigger of the two has just got his first real feathers. He is 10 days old now. I think I will turn their heat lamp off tomorrow unless it turns really cold (heat lamp = light bulb suspended over a box).

This evening trimmed Bob a bit. He fidgeted when I was trimming him last week and he looks a bit unusual so tried to trim some of the random long bits without taking his tail off.

The sheep have been busy eating our saplings that we planted so I have bought back to tghe house some of the ones which look like they are not going to make it and stuck them in a bucket. Our sheep then emptied them out of the bucket. Must remember next year that sheep and saplings do not mix.

At school we watched the path of Venus across the sun on a telescope that projected on paper. It was evercast but you could make out this, well very small blob over the sun. Which, quite frankly, looked like a smudge on the lens!

Think that some of the eggs that we have been keeping warm are not going to hatch, so will give up on them tomorrow. We can candle them which shows if there is anything in side (hold egg over light and you can see shadows of what is inside). They were part of the clutch that the gruesome twosome came from so they are rather late now.

Amelia’s eggs should be hatching soon, she is in the field by the telegraph pole well hidden, however I am worried about preditors so when she has hatched them we way bring them all back up here.

Had one expression of interest in the lambs, however they thought they were greyfaced dartmoor which are a rare breed, whereas our are Scottish Greyfaced which aren’t. Will make advert more clear next time.

It has been the hottest day of the year. It has been warm, but not as much as some places. It has been overcast. The ducklings had tipped their water over so were glad for a top up when I got home. The trouble with ducklings is that they are so messy. We can’t sink a basin in the ground for them as we need to keep moving their run (kitcen cabinet on it’s side – oh yes Steptoe & Son indeed) around the garden as they make it mud within seconds.

Rabbits OK, settling in. Will think about trimming Crumpet over next day or so.
