Jumble Sale

We had a good day at the jumble sale last Saturday. Ian was practising his elbow moves all morning, ready to do battle with the little old ladies. However he was outclassed and intimidated and adopted a new technique which was following a man who he thought would not be interested in the same things and picking up what he didn’t want. It is the start of the season so Ian has plenty of time to practice.

We came home with a cat basket, bird cage, picture frame and two bags of clothes. Unfortunately I shrunk the jumpers, and the ski suit I bought turned out to be some form of quilted dressing gown. However as it is like a duvet made into a long dress it is rather comfy and ideal for next time the heating goes off.

I have enough cages now to get the quails into trios. I am hoping that I have a mix in each. I think we have had at least one egg from each cage so it seems that I have it right. I split the two up who had been pecked and put them each into one of the new cages. They have been happily living together since I took them out of the main cage. I thought that they would want to see each other and put the cages next to each other. It was quail wars! I don’t know why, but soon as they were in seperate cages they wanted to fight each other and were fighting through the bars. I have had to turn the cages round so they can’t see each other. If they carry on laying now they won’t get sold. It’s up to them!

Henry was trimmed on Sunday. He doesn’t like his underside trimmed but was very knotty so had to be trimmed.

I went to the library on Monday to look for info on pregnant goats. Suprisingly I couldn’t find what I wanted on the internet. I know that goats are lop sided when the are pregnant as the kid is held on the other side to the stomachs. Bluebell definately looks lopsided, but could that just be where she is eating a lot? I think that there is nothing for it other than to watch for the udders, as there doens’t seem any other way of reliably checking. I could get them scanned, but it wouldn;t be worth it with just 7 sheep and probably one goat. I guess we will still be here during lambing time so I’ll be able to see whether I was right.

The snow didn’t come to anything, although it did get quite white for a while yesterday.

We still have the horses in the stable, the dogs are getting used to them now.

Got a viewing this Saturday – the person who couldn’t make it during the storm.
