More goats

Evie is still with us and making good progress, however we have lost two of the other angoras. I found Angelica down on Thursday, but didn’t think she looked as bad as Evie, but was in a similar state – completely on her side and floppy, we bought her in and she died Friday morning. The others seemed OK, but suddenly Hadrian flopped over on his side. We got him up and he didn’t flop again, we wormed, multi vitimined, etc him and he had obviously moved around, he was also eating when we checked on him last night. But this morning he was dead.

We need to keep an eye on the others.

Evie is still in the cellar and eating and drinking with no problems. However where she has been down for two weeks her joints are ceasing, so today was her first goat pysio session, with Ian and I massaging her joints with her balanced over a chair. One of her back legs was very stiff and stuck out at an angle, however with careful massage and manipulation Ian got it bending as normal. We took advice from a lady who responded to our SOS message on acountrylife.com and she made the point that it will take a week or so before she can walk again. She also said that it is important to hold her up and make her feel she is walking so she doesn;t get depressed and just give up. Evie is a fighter and hopefully we’ll get her on her feet again.

So today wasn’t a particulary good day, not helped by the fact that Freckles and BlackKnees have finally realised that they are sheep, and given the choice between coming into the garden with us, or being shup the otherside of the fence with the Herdies, they chose the Herdies.

We were doing the fencing as we put Genghis back into the field and needed to block him off from Debbies sheep. He has been shut away for three weeks and we wondered what he would make of being out side again. Within about three minutes he found Moulty, he called to her the way that he did when he was a lamb and lost. She didn’t seem desperately happy to have him back again.

I’ve had to retie Bandy Legs legs, one of them is OK, but the other is out at a right angle. So I have tied the stuck out one to the otherone, hopefully it will right itself, but we’ve been here before.

Tan Tan is back outside again, but still jumps onto Ians hand. We put the remaining small chicks outside so the house is chick free the first time for months.

Tomorrow we are wallpapering the small bedroom. What fun!
