Just the other side of the aluminium plant is the small port of Moras where the dolos (the big concrete things that look like giant jacks or hammers) used to be made.
There is a sort of memorial to the dolos and an explanation of the huge task to make them.
And this is how they are used, to make a breakwater. Apparently 18000 of them were built, and if I understand correctly, each one is 50 tons.
The cliffs are called paper cliffs because of the similarity to folded paper. I think we missed that bit 🙂
Whale Factory
The port of Moras used to be home to a whale processing factory. This was the ramp they used to bring the whales up on.
Today it’s much smaller fish that are caught (this is described as an ‘artisan fishing port’ – not sure what that means but perhaps it means hobby rather than commercial…??
