I got locked in the stable today with the runner ducks. I think the dogs had jumped on the bottom catch – I wonder if they had been trained…
When I finally managed to get out I mentioned to Ian the fact that I had been locked in the stable for ages and he commented that he thought I had been a long time and I must have been playing with the rabbits.
I learnt some important lessons namely that a/ none of our dogs are Lassie material. Not one tried to raise the alarm. b/ My ability to through things acurately at the latch of the door on the outside was sadly lacking and c/ That I should not rely on Ians noticing that I was not around in order to be saved.
The fox has not fallen for the trap, we have been vigilent with locking everything away and the ducks are getting used to be shut away. As the evenings are getting earlier then getting them locked away is essential. Hopefully the fox will realise that there is no food around and will not stick around.
The chickens are laying again and we are getting back to an egg surplus. But still nothing from the quails. They shoudl be laying about now. The three injurred Runner Ducks are still in the stable and we will let them out when we are sure that they are fully fit again.
A silkie drowned yesterday. I have no idea why, they really are very daft. The last time one drowned it was raining really hard and we thought it was water sodden, but it was not raining yesterday. They have been out for so long now that we were suprised to find that one had fallen in.
We had a visit from some cows yesterday who had managed a breakout from Mikes field opposite. They disappeard during the day. Don’t know if this was on their own accord.
As it is now colder we need to think about what we are going to do about heating. Probably order some oil next week.
