Storms!

We’ve had two storms which were back-to-back. Lot of winds, lots of waves and lots of rain! The wind was coming towards the front of the house which blew the rain under the broken tiles on the roof, so it dripped through the bathroom ceiling. It rarely does this, as the wind needs to be strong to blow the rain under the tiles – but it’s been doing it a lot over the last few days. So I guess that means the wind has been in a different direction to normal.

We had a power cut on Saturday. It only lasted a couple of hours – so it could have been worse. I think some trees had fallen onto power cables, so quite a few areas were affected.

The winds were strong and at one point we shut the front door and kept the animals in, as the Horreo roof is in a bad state and we were worried about the winds blowing tiles off.

The wind had blown the pew over, which we’ve left lying on its back – as that would definately hurt any small animals which might have got caught underneath. The pew actually isn’t that stable, probably as it was designed to be permently fixed to the floor, so we need to think about how to ensure it is not going to get blown over in the future.

The waves were higher than I think we’ve seen before. We didn’t go out during the very high waves though.

These are the waves looking up the coastline from San Cibrao, towards ‘our’ headland.

The photo below was a fluke, we were watching the waves and a massive one crashed. I then waited for another, but of course it didn’t come!

This was Ian looking out over Mermaid island – where waves were crashing too.

However the mermaid herself was quite sheltered – however I wonder if it might have looked different at high tide.

The beaches were closed during the storms, but this beach seemed quite sheltered, but that must depend on the wind direction.

White horses!

I think the tail of the new storm will be hanging around for a bit, but it is heading down the west coast, so we’re hopefully seeing the end of it.

And this is a nice picture of Ian getting mugged by Primrose at the Vet!
