When we moved here we got the strimmer serviced. Given that it’s over 20 years old, it was probably due a service! It started working well, but then it became a bit intermittent. We took it in for the person to look at who serviced it before, and it didn’t really improve.
However, Ian has been working on it – gradually replacing all the parts – and it’s now working! He did have one nasty moment when after finally it was working – he pulled the starter cable and that snapped 🙂
Getting the strimmer working again became more important as the land around the house was starting to look jungle-like. The aim is to hard-surface over everything except for the veggies at some point, but for now, it’s a case of keeping the weeds down and stopping the ferns from coming back. I think there’s a legal requirement to keep land around a property regularly cut back because of the fire risk in this area, but I think we’re doing quite a good job of reclaiming the land from ferns and ivy which had taken such a hold over it before we moved in.
Talking of veggies – these are the last of the peppers!

And the lilies came back on the outside the house

And on a slightly different topic – I found a star fish on the beach.

The name for star fish is the same in Spanish – estrella de mar. However I learned this week that the word for ‘sealion’ in Spanish actually translates to ‘sea wolf’ (there were some stranded on a nearby beach). I wonder why – in both instances. There’s nothing either wolfy or lioney about them 🙂
