Summer has arrived

Getting off the plane on Saturday was like stepping into an oven. Seville is the hottest city in Spain and it certainly felt like it. I had another good trip and the plane arrived on time and Ian was there to meet me.

This weekend was the San Juan fiesta that started on Friday and ended Sunday. This marks the beginning of the summer, which means that the swimming pool will be opening this week and the schools have or will be breaking up. Ian went to the fiesta yesterday after he’d been to watch the football. I couldn’t face an evening that was just warming up at midnight and continuing to the early (or not so early) hours! Spain play again on Thursday and things are hotting up a bit. There were a few fireworks on Sunday and they will increase for every stage that they get through.

This morning I went out for a walk early-ish, however at this time of year everything starts early in the morning so it was surprisingly busy with the farmers in the field with the mounds of grain and people generally out and about. We’re soon getting to the time of year when the only time you see anyone is early in the morning or after 11 at night!

All the leaves fell off our climbing rose. This was very strange, although I guess they got scorched before we put the sun shade back up. Hopefully they’ll grow back, but roses do grow well here and I’ve not been aware of any others scorching. We also had to put shade over our melon plant as that was scorching – however, again, I’ve seen lots of melons growing in unshaded plots. I am wondering if the light in bouncing off the white walls which is making it hotter and brighter on the patio. Maybe we’ll try a few plants at the back and see how they get on.

I won’t subject anyone to any more macro pictures that I’ve taken with my new lens – let’s just say that I have a great picture of a close up of Bob’s nose!!
