The sun is out today – for the first time for a long time. The last few days have been very wet, and although it has been mild, it has been damp and miserable. I hope that it is here to stay. Most mornings we hear the weatherforcast and look out the window and see the opposite. This morning, at last, the weather man said cold and miserable and there was blinding sunshine and warmth!
We had a forth chick hatch, I noticed it this morning, but when I went out later it was dead. I think it got trampled on, it was 10 days younger than the others and I think if left to themselves the mother hen would get off the eggs after the first lot had hatched stopping any from hatching much later than the others. This little one was too small to cope with the mother hen and others stamping around, when they are first hatched the mum would normally not move for a day or so whilst the chicks dry off under her wings. Because the mother hen and chicks are in a contained area, she is still sitting on them and this means that they are continuing to incubate. We will get the incubator down later and take the eggs out from the mother hen and see what happens. If they hatch we’ll bring them on and then introduce them back to mother hen once they are big enough not to get trampled.
With the tenants out of Bridge End House, we are doing some work to get it looking good. It was ‘ok’ but needed sprucing up. Ian is doing this – I was using the royal we. It’s a bit worrying that we’ve not had many viewings there. Well, we have had no viewings from Gareth (who Ian used to work for) and we have only had one that we know of from Jeremy (although they could have had more which we don’t know of as they hold keys and just get on with it without bothering us). Gareth was the one that was bullish over price, so that makes it doubley disapointing that he hasn’t got any interest.
I have been getting ready for a craft fare at BusinessLink tomorrow. An outing for the jewellery and it will be interesting to get some direct feedback.
