Tan Tan, the chick who once upon a time used to jump into my hand, having been discovered hiding under the bed in the spare room, has developed into an interesting cross with strong signs of silkie parentage.
The other red coloured silkie cross with the silly haircut is a complete psycho, who feels quite naked if she isn’t carrying a switchblade. That’s Mummy. Our first hen mum.
Unfortunately Tan Tan has decided to take after Mummy.
Yesterday Kate discovered Tan Tan with 2 surprisingly mature chicks, wandering around the garden. We attempted to get Tan Tan and 2 chicks into a box to keep them safe.
Tan Tan responded by loosing both barrels of a 12 bore shotgun at Kate and I.
We left her to it.
Today we discovered Tan Tan with 3 chicks of the same age. We’ve no idea where chick 3 turned up from.
We’re aware of two other hens with chicks in the garden, but not of this age. We can only assume that Tan Tan has got another hen entirely under her control and is using her to produce chicks as required.
We look forward to seeing how many chicks Tan Tan has tomorrow.
