Technical problems

Well I’ve had problems writing the blog.  I typed my entry on another computer and have been unable to copy it across, then something else strange happened so I am going to have to start again.  Grrrr.  Obviously my posts which I was unable to update have been hilarious and informative, and this is going to be as dull as ditchwater as I try to remember what we have been up to.

Three quails doing well and living in a box in the spare room.  The older ducklings have been moved from the stable outside.  The plan was to do this in a phased manner and to pop them into a run for a day or so to let them get reacclimatised and then to let them lose.  However, we noticed slightly after they did that there was a hole in the netting and five little ducklings squeezed their way through into the big wide open garden.  This immediately bought up the other ducks who were most put out!  Ian has invented the dance of the Runner Duck and I recomend this to all.

We let the little chicks out too (the Gruesome Twosome and their mate).  They are very funny doing chicken like things but on a very small scale.  Ian spent quite a lot of time trying to get one of them in the chicken shed last night as it very much had other ideas.

We moved the ducklings that were upstairs into the stable, which means that it is quieter and less smelly upstairs now.

I had to throw out a load of eggs as the ones that I tried to save last week when the broody decided not to be broody any more did not hatch.  What a shame.

Freckles and Black Knees have found out how to get into the garden (not that it is difficult now we have taken down the fence) and have been baaing outside the front door.

We have mucked out the basement, which we had used as overflow accomodation during lambing.  We needed to do this as it was getting damp.  Ian has also been unblocking drains.  I have been strimming nettles and thistles.  What fun we are having!

There are two buns in nest.  I checked them both yesterday and their eyes were just opening and they have a downy cover on them (no longer look like jelly beans).  I think I was the first thing that they saw.  What lucky buns!!

And lastly Hadrian seems to have suffered no long term ill effects from his escapade last week.  He is walking without a limp and seems to have settled down with the others.
