The photo above is when we took Daisy for an early morning walk on the beach in Burela. I think the sunlight was peeking its way through to Foz.
A Trip to Viveiro
Last weekend we went to a largest town to our north west called Viveiro. It is about 20 km (12 miles) away going the most direct route but longer than that when we came back as we followed the coast.

We had some bits and pieces to buy, so thought it would be a good opportunity to see another town. Viveiro I guess is a similar size to Foz, which is about 10k people, so quite big. However what made it feel even bigger was the fact it ran into the neighbouring town and they share a port, so it covers quite a large area.
The town was a bit of a mix, some good some bad. It is a town with a long history. There’s still part of a medieval wall which was built to protect against pirates. The old part is quaint and beautiful in some areas, but very run down in others. The old bit is nearly all pedestrian, as the streets are so narrow, and I wonder if that makes it unattractive to develop for residential or commercial use. It reminded me of a very neglected York. The estuary that it straddles is the largest (apparently) in A Coruña, which is the principality where it is located (we are in Lugo). So the town was originally an important trading town.
We came across this little grotto where people leave offerings for the Virgen. I felt a bit awful taking this photo as I realized after I had taken the pics that someone was behind me who had come in to pray. I try to be sensitive and not be ignorant or treat this sort of thing like a tourist attraction – but hopefully I didn’t offend.

On the way back, we went to a mirador (viewing point) where had great views. There was also the site of an old faro (which is lighthouse or beacon – this was a beacon).

We took a look at some of the beaches and ports on the way back. Lots to explore!
Red Sky In The Morning

Despite the red sky in the morning warning, we took Daisy for her first outing to the beach. This is on Burela and she had the beach to herself. She did become less wary of the waves!
Wall!

This is our almost ivy cleared wall. The bird feeder in the front is to attract robins. I have never seen so many robins as we’ve seen here. I counted 7 one morning which I could see without really looking – and those were just the males as they are easy to spot with their flash of red.
We still have our ‘gate’ made of a table and pet playground. It does look a bit Steptoe, but does mean that we can let the dogs out. We’ve put a bell on the outside so people don’t need to come in.
We did get a quote for aluminium gates, they would have been nice, as we liked ones our neighbours have which have a black finish – however the quote was well over our budget so we’ll think of something else.
