We haven’t seen any rabbits since we’ve been here – neither hide nor hare (groan) of one. No bunny tracks, no traffic casualties, not a single thing.
Until I saw this one which I think is a pet rabbit and lives in a small finca where I go for a walk. He’s quite a big rabbit. I’ve also seen a fox near here too – so hopefully the rabbit is well protected as he seems to have free range of the little finca he’s living on.
I have no idea why there aren’t any rabbits here unless it’s because the land is very rocky and maybe difficult for them to make burrows.
So… on Monday all of Spain had a massive power cut. I’m pretty certain that the impact very much depends on someone’s circumstance. In parts of Barcelona, for example, the power outage was ‘only’ three hours. For someone not dependant on electricity that’s not ‘that’ long – but I am sure it felt like a very long time for someone trapped in a lift or stuck in a train.
In other areas of Spain the power outage lasted longer. Here it was about 6 hours and lasted shorter in length the more east you go. It lasted for 13 or so hours in the south of Spain and some areas were out for almost a day which must have been very unsettling.
Obviously a lot of places and businesses have emergency generators – we noticed that the chemist in San Cibrao did, I guess they may have medications etc that need refrigerating, but for other businesses that didn’t, many either stayed open but could only take cash or they shut.
However, for us it really wasn’t much different to power cuts we quite regularly have. We don’t have them all the time, but I guess every couple of months there will be a power cut for more than a few minutes and since we’ve been here the power has been out three or four times for over a few hours. So it wasn’t a completely new experience for us – which perhaps it was for people in cities where they have consistent power.
Thankfully everything got back to normal fairly quickly. I think the trains took a while to get back to normal – because all the trains were in the wrong place and started back up again at different times.
