I have bought an Amazon Kindle. I’ve had some money in a US Amazon account from when I used to write for BellaOnline. I’ve not done anything with it, however when the new Kindle was released, I thought this would be a good opportunity to spend the money.
Living in Spain, we have to buy Kindles from Amazon ‘International’. It is not supported if we buy it from the UK – so as it happens it worked out well. The cost works out well buying it from America too, and they take a deposit against duty and tax, guaranteeing that they will pay any additional costs.
My Kindle arrived within 5 days – which is pretty good. Obviously no problem with customs.
When I opened the package, both Ian and I thought that there was paper on the screen – however it’s not paper. That is what the screen looks like. It really looks like paper!
So far I am very impressed. They refer to the technology as ‘electronic paper’ and it is really very different to anything else I know. It isn’t at all like a computer screen, it is matt and is as clear to read in sunlight as it is in the shade.
It holds something like 7000 books – so that will keep my quiet for a while….!!
