I’ve just come back from the supermarket and I understand enough to know that the main topic of conversation was asparagus. It is slow this year. Which, Ian and I both know as we’ve been out a few times looking for it, and while we’ve had enough for a meal, last year we were picking enough for two meals.
The countryside is just crazy at the moment. Yesterday, as well as keeping our eyes open for asparagus which grows best by trees and walls, we had to keep our eyes open for the rest of the village who kept popping up from behind a wall or behind a tree. Ian nearly trod on two ladies which surprised him as much as them. I think they were surprised by Ian’s mumblings.
We’ve been spending our asparagus picking time saying ‘ladder’ rapidly over and over again. The reason for this is because we’ve read on the Internet (never believe what you read!) that you can train yourself to roll your r by saying ‘ladder’ over and over again really quickly. I can’t say if this is working as it makes me go light headed. I’ve progressed to a gurgling sound, which I hope is a step in the right direction, although Ian was a little concerned as he thought I’d swallowed my tongue at one point.
Tomorrow is St Joseph’s Day and a public holiday.
