What a Good Day!

We have had a good day today. Nothing to do with the 7 pairs of cotton trousers that I bought for 2 euros each – which amazingly ALL fit me – and nothing to do with the half price croc-alikes that Ian bought in El Corte Ingles, but more down to the pink kaftan (which no one should be without) and the cookery book that we found. The cookery book is a book about traditional Extremaduran cookery. It was quite expensive, but I bought it with my English coaching money – which sort of helped to make it worth while!

We took the day off and went to Badajoz. We’d been promising that we’d do this during the summer – while it is quiet. We left at 9 ish and went straight to El Corte Ingles. We were looking for housey type things (and kaftans, trousers, crock-alikes…). The housey things were a little disappointing. Lots of nice orange bed clothes – that or linen white. Orange wouldn’t fit in with our color scheme and linen white would be impractical. What we wanted was a sludge colored set of bed clothes. They sadly didn’t have much in the way of bargains in the kitchen appliance department.

I’m looking forward to reading the cookery book – it will be largely meat based, I am sure. However meat is often used as a flavouring and is a minor ingredient in many dishes, so I am sure we’ll find them easy to adapt.

El Corte Ingles had an excellent selection of local books. Books are quite expensive here, and local ones more so, however I would be interested to buy some to help improve my Spanish. There was one about the Civil War in this area of Spain and another about famous Extremaduran witches – which must be worth a look!

We also bought a small paddling pool for when Hattie is here next week, however I will be interested to see if the dogs use it to cool down. Petal used to not mind the water, so we’ll see….
