I forget to say that I am writing some ‘how to dye’ articles for a man who’s branching out his grout and cement dye business to include fabric and yarn dyes. He wanted permission to reprint some articles I already have written, but I couldn’t grant permission as he wanted to put it on his website and the other website where they are published has online exclusivity for two years. So I said I’d rewrite them in return for some dyes. It just so happened that I needed some more dye, so it was a nice little barter. So far he has sent me a few pots of primary colors – with a load of samples of ‘synthetic micronized iron oxide dye’. I have no idea what this is, but I do know it is used in make-up so it can’t be too harmful! Next week he is sending me some kits.
I did say I wouldn’t do any more bartering work after the crochet stuff I did last year where the hooks I was writing instructions for weren’t the sort of product I wanted my name against – but the dyes are hopefully more straightforward – and I won’t be putting my name to them, only writing his instructions.
